SANDHILLS CHAPTER of the NORTH CAROLINA NATIVE PLANT SOCIETY MARCH 11 FIRST MEETING WITH GUEST SPEAKER BRUCE SORRIE

Aberdeen Public Library Longleaf Pine Restoration
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Join us for a hands-on day of environmental stewardship! This project aims to restore local biodiversity by planting longleaf pine trees. If we have enough volunteers this installation of trees should not take more than a couple of hours.
The full project involves creating a garden park directly across from the new Aberdeen Public Library. Spanning nearly an acre, the approved plan features much-needed green space for the town, a pollinator garden, pergola, water feature, seating, and additional shrubs—while preserving all existing trees. It will become Aberdeen’s first fully passive garden park.
Whether you are a seasoned gardener or a first-time volunteer, your help is vital in rebuilding healthy ecosystems for local wildlife.
* Goal: Re-establish native plant communities to support local pollinators and improve soil health.
* What to expect: Physically active work including digging and transplanting large container grown pine trees.
* What to bring: Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a shovel, gloves, a water bottle and sun protection.
* Perks: Learn about local ecology, meet fellow nature enthusiasts, and see the immediate impact of your hard work.
